Grandeur, open space and quiet (bezocht in oktober 2018)

Review geschreven door Ashleigh Beaumont op 12 november 2018

Great Basin National Park feels about as far from the Netherlands as you can possibly be. A four hour drive from Las Vegas passing Cathedral Gorge State Park, also not to be missed the Great Basin stretches all the way to the Eastern Sierra, Mount Wheeler rising like a snow capped sentinel in the distance.

We were lucky enough to hike the Bristlecone trail in the snow and see the ancient sentinels, the oldest trees on earth from a snowpack. A short aide trip to Lake Teresa at 10000 ft, but the snow was too deep to make it to the glacier.

You can visit the vast cave structure under the Great Basin by taking a guided tour to Lehman Caves- we wanted to be on top of the world and not under it.

I would love to return to the Great Basin and hike the other trails in the autumn. The stillness, the absence of people, the vast sky. Sheer beauty.
